Lateef Alani Odekunle holds a B.Sc (Hons.) degree in Accounting from the University of Benin in 1990, an M.Sc. and a PhD degree in Economics from the University of Lagos in 1999 and 2015 respectively He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCA) in 2011. He has had a very distinguished career in Financial Management at several levels. In 2011, he was appointed the Bursar of the University of Lagos, which made him one of the Principal Officers of the University, and the chief financial officer responsible for providing leadership and direction for the entire finance function; a position he held until 2017. While the University Bursar, he advanced the objectives and activities in the Bursary from simple collection and disbursement to fully rounded financial management encompassing fiscal management, cost efficiency, liquidity management, accountability and reporting, tax matters and financial advisory to enable decision making by the University leadership. Dr. Odekunle also made effective contributions to internal governance of the University through periodic reporting of budget performance and cash management to the University Management and Council. Before his appointment as the University Bursar, Dr. Odekunle had worked as Deputy Bursar; Chief Accountant and Head of Directorate of Final Accounts; Principal Accountant – Salaries and Wages, Head of Accounts at University of Lagos Guest Houses and Conference Centre, Head of Accounts Cash office, Head of Accounts Expenditure Control of Works and Services Department. Dr. Odekunle belongs to some professional bodies amongst which are: Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN). He has a number of publications to his credit.
